So far, video analysis works mostly on 2 dimensions. Not only do people often forget about audio, they also forget about the fact that 3D is another option. With 3D, "the zebra behind the fence" problem becomes trivial because in 3D space no two objects share the same coordinates and texture information becomes a secondary feature. So 3D is really going to change the way people will think about computer vision.
What was new to me: Hollywood is currently investing big money in 3D and my prognosis is that in 10 years, only smaller cinemas will still show the "classical" 2D movies. For a list of 3D titles already shown see here: http://www.3dmovielist.com/list.html
Once they know how to record 3D, devices will become available to individual users and surveillance will be based on this. Once enough data is collected, people will need 3D analytics... (you know where I am going).
